Hi there,
I am currently working on evacuating existing backups from the DataDomains an move them on an NFS Share or on an ReFS Repository, depending what the best solution is.
Currently I have on DataDomain 1:
- used Space: ca. 21 TB
- Compression factor: 12,2
- data reduction (%) 91,8
- pre-compression size: 254,8 TB
on DataDomain2:
- used Space: ca. 7 TB
- Compression factor: 8,5
- data reduction (%) 88,3
- pre-compression size: 59 TB
Is there a way to copy the Backups from the DDs to e.g. a ReFS Repository and get the benefits of ReFS? We have currently some GFS Chains on the DDs we need to keep due to compliance. Copying via the Files menu in the Veeam Console to a ReFS Repository gets only around 30-40 MB/s and doesn't use block cloning feature. Also we would need more than 100 days to copy the backup files.
Is there an option to export the Backups to tape?
Or would exporting the Backups to a ReFS Repository would leverage block cloning?

No, to start leveraging block cloning, you would need to perform an active full on the ReFS repository. Older backups will be rehydrated upon being copied there.

Re: "Evacuate" DataDomain to NFS Share or ReFS Repository
So a possible way to benefit from ReFS would look the following:
- create a backup job to the target ReFS Repository and create an active full backup for the vms which backups are currently located on the DataDomains
- copy the backup files from the DataDomains to the ReFS repository via Veeam Console files menu?
- benefit from ReFS block cloning
Is that right?

No, block cloning will be possible for the newly created chains only.
