Exch 2010 Restore......

Post by guru_reggie »

Hi guys,

I can seem to restore emails to a .msg file etc, but not back into Exchange… It doesn’t seem to find the CAS server even tho we’ve got that role installed… Do you know of any Exchange/Permissions settings that we should be aware of to enable us to restore directly into Exchange..?

Thanks a mill,
Reg…

Michael, what kind of error do you get?

Please review another existing thread, just in case you experience the similar issue.

Hi Foggy,

It comes back blank when it goes searching for the CAS server.. An outlook client on a PC connects to the mailbox without issue (ie. it sees the CAS role etc)... Do I perhaps need Outlook installed on the Veeam server..? Does it use MAPI to connect back into the mailbox..?

Thanks again,
Mike...

Have you tried to specify IP address of your Exchange Server, instead of using FQDN/hostname?

As to the MAPI, VB&R server needs it only to write data to PST. Exchange 2010 is 64-bit application, so VB&R Server can only work with its data using 64-bit MAPI. The only way to obtain 64-bit MAPI today is to install 64-bit Outlook.

Apart from this case (export data to PST), Exchange Web Services are being used for everything else.

Thanks.

Short answer, no - you do not need Outlook on the Veeam server to be able to restore email back to original mailbox ;)
I would start from checking basic connectivity from Veeam server to CAS server, and whether there are any firewalls in place.
