Exchange 2010 DAG VSS Backup

Hi All,

I'm currently looking to various backup products for our soon to be deployed Exchange 2010 on vSphere. I know that Veeam VSS can be used to backup MS SQL databases but, can it also be used to backup Exchange 2010 that will be part of DAG? More to the point, can it be used to backup passive copies of the databases rather then the active copies, thus not impacting production servers?

Would appreciate feed back from anyone who has used/implemented it.

Hello Luke, I am not sure what DAG means.

Please note that Exchange 2010 is not fully supported yet by Veeam VSS. We did some smoke tests and it appears to work, but we have also learned that VSS had significant changes in Exchange 2010, so we need to research and test this further before we can commit full support. This will be part of next release most likely. Alternatively today you can use regular VMware quiescence, but that will do file system level freeze only, not application level.

Just wanted to update this thread and say that Exchange 2010 is fully supported for Veeam VSS integration starting version 4.1.1
