Exchange server back up only the database and logs??

Post by tommls »

Is there a way in Veeam to just back up the database and logs volumes yet still be able to restore email messages or email folders or mailboxes??
Without having to back up the C:\ system drive??
This would be a separate backup from the regular 'complete' Exchange server VM backup.
Being able to do this would make 'archive' backups a lot smaller yet we could restore things.

Similar to how the internal Windows Server Backup application can backup and restore with backing up just the volumes containing the mailbox store and logs??

Thank you, Tom

Hi Tommls,

You can exclude volumes from being backed up following this section of the help-center: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsp ... e_vms.html

As long as you have the Mailbox Database and Logs you can recover items using Veeam Exchange Explorer. Of course I'd recommend testing this process as with any DR solution. :)

Hope this is what you are after.

Thanks,
David.
