[Feature Request] Exclude Oracle Instance
Hello!
I have 2 oracle instances on one vm and i want to exclude one oracle instance from backup via veeam.
It would be nice, if it is possible to exclude one of the oracle instances.
Is there a workaround for this?
I need the instance to exclude not up and running.
Maybe there is a workaround like this:
* Save the registry key for this instance
* Delete the registry key for this instance, so veeam does not know anything about this instance
and do not try to back it up
* if i need the instance running, i restore the saved registry key and start the instance
Does Veeam search for oracle instances in the registry or is there another way to (easy) exclude one
oracle instance from veeam backup?
Thank you + regards,
Fritz

Hi Fritz, you can exclude databases, but not the entire instance.

Please contact support for advice on this. This functionality was not thoroughly tested, however, so not fully supported and should be used with care. Thanks.

Re: [Feature Request] Exclude Oracle Instance
Yes, since initially the question was regarding excluding entire instances, not databases. So you were asked to make a feature request.

Re: [Feature Request] Exclude Oracle Instance
Hello!
Maybe i messed up database and instance.
We had an installation with Oracle Enterprise Edition.
Due to licensing topics, we had to install Oracle Standard Edition.
Now we had one enterprise edition instance (with one database),
which is stopped (SID: INTREXX)
And we had one standard edition instance (with one database),
which is running. (SID: INTREXXSE)
During backup, veeam gets an error with the enterprise edition instance:
16.07.2018 18:01:32 :: Unable to perform application-aware processing of Oracle database (SID:
INTREXX) : Oracle error has occurred. ORA-12560: TNS: Fehler bei Protokolladapter
--tr:OracleSession: failed to init server.
--tr:Failed to create oracle session.
--tr:Failed to create oracle session holder. SID: INTREXX.
I dont want to handle this problem, because this instance is not running
and there is no need for backup this "old" data.
But the system administrator wants to keep this oracle installation for security
purpose.
The standard edition instance was backed up correct:
16.07.2018 18:57:32 :: Saving INTREXXSE.ora
Regards + sorry for the confusion!

So if you contact support for database exclusion instructions, this could solve the issue for you.
