Exclude virtua lab from backup

Post by frankive »

I have a backup job which backup up our host (hyper-v server). I have selected the host and exclude VMs as I don't want to backup as part of this job.

I want to exclude the virtual lab appliance from the backup but just get an error saying that "One or more VMs are in use by Surebackup or Instant VM Recovery".

What am i missing here?

Virtual labs should be excluded from processing automatically. So, no need to add them to exclusions list.

I could swear I was struggling with it but after having a coffee cup the virtual lab was gone from the backupset. All good.
No explaination.. Weird.. :)

The programmed behaviour is that virtual labs are excluded from processing, by default. If the issue reoccurs, kindly, open a ticket with our support team. Thanks.

I actually see the virtual lab in our backup copy job still.
Have removed the job and created new, but it still appears and gives warning for the whole job.
It always show "no-restore-points" naturally since we dont take backup of it.

A case for the support team?

So, the backup job doesn't have and doesn't process vLab any longer, but the corresponding backup copy job having the backup job as a source still appears to show and process it? What if you specify VM exclusions for the backup copy job?

then i just receive an error saying that it is in use by an surebackupjob
I will try to remove all surebackup, application group and virtual lab and see if i can exclude the virtual lab BEFORE I create a surebackup that seems to lock it somehow in the wizards.

Weird: I just created a new virtual lab after ll was remove. I then restarted the backup job and the new virtual lab was part of it too..
And if I try to exclude it; "One or more VMs ar ein use by SureBackup or Instant VM Recovery". And it is not. Have no Surebackup og instant recovery running at all.

I have also deleted the backup copy jbo and creaated a new (i have mapped the backupfiles though since it is prett much data to a cloud connect service provider)

A bug in version 8.0?

Our QA is not aware of any issues around this functionality (and there's no case ID in this thread, so we could track it).

[MERGED] : Exclude Virtual Labs from Backup Jobs

Post by RWeiss »

We would like to be able to exclude the Virtual Labs from our SureBackup Jobs from the Backup / Backup Copy Jobs.

The main reason is that they produce warnings in our Backup Copy jobs.
The Virtual Labs are completely skipped by our backup jobs (they don't appear in the VM list) but the Backup Copy jobs try to find a backup for them which obviously results in a Warning (as no restore points are found).
However, when we try to remove them from either Backup or Backup Copy jobs, we are unable to do so because "they are part of a SureBackup job".

If we aren't missing something, please either make the Virtual Labs backupable (we don't really see a reason why this is necessary) or make it possible to remove them from all jobs.
