Excluding certain file extension from backup ?

Post by albertwt »

People,

I've got a large File server that is about almost 2TB in VMDK size, Using Veeam 9.0 U1, I just wanted to know how can I exclude the certain file extensions not to be inlcuded in the backup ?

I need to skip *.BAK, '*.mp3', '*.m4a', '*.mp4', '*.mkv', '*.mov', '*.avi', '*.wmv', '*.vob', '*.wma'

Because I cannot find it here below where to specify file extensions :

Do I need to perform full backup to reduce the disk space used by the .VBK file after enabling the above exclusions ?

At the moment I'm using Reverse Incremental backup:

Hi Albert,

First of all, I would suggest to make sure you have bitlooker enabled for this backup job. Secondly, in order to reduce VBK file for the reversed incremental backup mode, yes, you need to initiate active full backup. Finally, here is a bit more info on how to set masks for file exclusion setting > VM Guest OS Files

Hope it helps!

Vitaliy,

At the moment Bitlooker is not enabled.
So shall I enable it and then set the file extension exclusion at the same time or one by one ?

You can apply all settings at once, before running active full backup.
