Export Entire Backup Chain
Hi all,
I have been doing backup copy jobs to a Data Domain device. That device is now end of life and I have installed and setup a 2nd Data Domain as a backup repository.
I want to export entire backup chains of certain VMs to the new device. I see I can export backups but only 1 restore point at a time. Is there a way to export an entire chain for a certain VMs at a time?
Also to note I am connecting to my DataDomain over DDBoost.
I'm running V12.

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
Hello Jody
V12 of our product will allow you to move or copy entire backup chains to a new repository.
Move: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Copy: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Both options will use FastClone if the target repository supports it. But moving/copying chains for single machines is only possible if you have a per-machine backup chain.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
Hello Mildur,
This seems to only work for backups but not backups that are from a backup copy job. Any other ideas?

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
Hi Jody
It also works for backup copy jobs.
Here the link for copying backup copy job files:

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
I don't have the "copy backup" option from a Backup Copy job.

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
Are those backup chains from a "legacy backup copy job"?

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
So, I see my backup job and my backup copy job are both considered "legacy".
I see I can upgrade my primary backup job chain but it gives a warning that says "Upgrading the backup chain format will prevent associated backup copy jobs from processing newly created backups. Please recreate dependent backup copies"
What will happen to my "legacy" backup copy job if I upgrade the backup chain? Will it continue to run? Is there a way to upgrade the backup chain format on the backup copy job as well?

Re: Export Entire Backup Chain
Hi Jody
Considered as legacy backup copy jobs are for example periodic backup copy jobs after an upgrade to V12.
We introduces a new backup copy job type in V12. The old periodic copy job type was replaced by a new periodic copy job logic.
To be able to use new features such as copy or move, you need to upgrade that job.
If you upgrade the backup job chain, you also need to upgrade the backup copy job chain.
Dima wrote a comment on how to upgrade the chains. You may also read this information in our user guide before doing the upgrade. Without FastClone supported repositories, the upgrade will occupy space of a full backup per machine.
