[Feature Request] - Extract utility download
Hi,
I would like to request that the stand-alone extract utility would be available for download without the requirement to download the whole ISO file.
In case of disaster this will save you a lot of time:
* Downloading the (community) ISO (Currently ~5G)
* Extract or mount it
* Execute the installer
* Wait for the installer to finish
* Browse to the folder where the software is installed and fetch the three files.
In case of disaster this could reduce the RTO depending on your network speed, with approximately 1 hour.
I know most users would just copy the extract utility to another location just for this. But I am talking about a disaster and that location might not even be available at that point.
This could be a small zip archive located on the download servers or a "release" on a VeeamHub repository.
Thanks,
Maurice

Maurice,
Is it possible for you to offload the Extract utility to the USB drive from the installation of Veeam B&R? I'd treat it as a recovery media for agent backups (store it in safe / dedicated usb drive). Cheers!

Hi Dimitry,
Sure that is a possibility, and sure you could put that in a safe space. Or upload it to your [insert name of your cloud storage service] drive.
My point here is when even that your stored location is not accessible or usable.
For example:
The USB drive is 1h or 2h away and you'll need to have an RTO of 1.5h
You have stored it in OneDrive for Business and you need to restore your ADFS servers and therefore you can't access your OneDrive because you are unable to login.
There are a lot of use cases thinkable where a zip would be easiest way to go.
Like I said, I am talking about a disaster scenario.

Re: [Feature Request] - Extract utility download
Hi Dima,
I would happily second this request. As somebody who's been on the customer side and is now on the service provider side there are often varying levels of infrastructure available when a restore is badly needed. You guys have always done a great job of having the extract.exe utility and it being the only thing you need in the case of a emergency restore, but especially now that I'm on the SP side I can't usually count on customers having it saved off for that type of use. In that case either we have to provide it or they have to download it, which means a 4.3 GB download for a 13 MB file. If you could bring yourself to supply this as an additional download option trust me, your customers will be thanking you for it.

This makes sense. We'll look at adding this to the Download area of our web site. Thanks for the feedback!
