Extreme Compression Question

Post by aeccles »

I'm running backups over a WAN (VPN) with a 5Mbps connection. As result, the bandwidth is clearly the bottleneck. Given this, if I use "Extreme Compress" will my backup jobs actually take longer than if I used normal?

Thanks,
Aaron

Actually, this is an excellent use case for extreme compression. It will probably only save 3-5%, but that's noticeable on a slow link and won't hit the CPU much at all since, as you said, the network itself is the bottleneck, not the CPU.
