Feature request: Backup mailboxes from SMTP/IMAP servers

Post by jim3cantos »

Hello,

it would interesting to have the possibility to backup mailboxes from external SMTP/IMAP servers, not only for Office 365/exchange ones. Something like what Mailstore does. The ability to also archive mail would be a plus.

Hello José

We haven't heard of such a request very much. Personally I don't believe that IMAP is a protocol still used by a lot of our customers.
Organizations and businesses leverage more type of data than just mail on modern collaboration server. Such as calendar or tasks. But IMAP is limited to Mail only.

Maybe that can work for you:
If your IMAP server runs on a virtual or physical machine, then you should be able to backup the database/data of the IMAP server with VBR or our Agent.

Hi Fabian,

The request was aimed to email services located at the ISP (not on premises), that usually offer access vía POP/SMTP/IMAP for different email clients. The idea was to use this access for doing the backup of the mailboxes and then be able to restore items with a kind of "Veeam Explorer for email servers" similar to the Explorer for Exchange: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo36 ... tml?ver=70

Anyway, thanks for your answer.
Regards.
