Feature request: New role backup editor
Hello all,
we're using VEEAM B&R for several years now, and there were only a few users in the past, so, it was okay that everyone was granted full administrative rights. But nowadays, there are some new users who should be able to create new backup or replication jobs, but they shouldn't be able to change other settings like backup repos etc., so, they would get to many rights if we assign the Backup Administrator role to them.
On the other hand, assigning them Veeam Backup Operator and Restore Operator role wouldn't be enough, since operators cannot create new jobs or edit existing ones. So, it would be nice to have another role, maybe called "Backup Editor" or similar which would allow users to create or edit backup and replication jobs without giving them full administrative access to the Veeam infrastructure itself.
Thanks for reading and best regards from Germany,
Harald

Have you considered using the new RBAC feature added with Update 4? This should fit your needs from reading your post. More information can be found here.

Re: Feature request: New role backup editor
Hello vmniels,
and thanks for your fast reply. I've checked the documentation, and it seems that RBAC would fit our needs. Better to say it has much more capabilities, and would be really helpful - but, we cannot use it, since it's an Enterprise Plus feature and unfortunately, we have "only" Enterprise since we don't need any other E+ features.
So, although multi-tenance is quite nice, having a simple "Backup Editor" role in Enterprise as an addition to the already existing ones would be nice, too, .
Best regards from Germany,
Harald

This would indeed very helpful.
We have engineers that would be able to adjust backup job, but not have the possibility to delete jobs or delete backups.

Well, disabling the job schedule is not much different from deleting it (you will not have new backups created in both cases).
