feature request regarding networking for replica failover
Hi everybody,
sometimes it's quite useful to start a CDP replica (via failover) to validate or test certain changes (might also be done with a 'normal' replica). But you have to be careful when you don't wannt to bring that VM to your network - per default, there is no option to avoid network connectivity and so your VM comes online very fast and causes a lot of mess (sometimes you can't react before the network comes up). I'd love to see the option "connect to network" (just like in IR wizard) on the (CDP) replica failover.
Assume you're starting a CDP replica of an SQL server and you'd then have to do a transactional restore, you don't wannt to connect your database server to the network before you've done the rollforward...
Thanks!

Hello,
hmm, we don't have that option for normal replication... I just tried it out and disconnected the network in VCenter before failover. Failover worked fine. Did you try that already?
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: feature request regarding networking for replica failover
well, I haven't tried as I don't know when veeam would replicate all the vm settings - in case of the 'normal' replicas it's during each run, but when would it happen for CDP replicas??

ah, I was not clear enough: I disconnected the network on the target side.
Disconnecting production made no sense to me.

Re: feature request regarding networking for replica failover
yeah, that was clear to me too. But when the source vm is connect to the network, this setting would be replicated to the replica (target vm). So when I untick the box for "connected", it might be replicated again. But when this would happen is unclear to me (talking about CDP).

I saw now issues with that. Did you see any issues?

Not so far. Just wannted to know when the settings (network adapter) would be replicated again?

As always: I suggest to test with a test machine. While a machine is in failover state, there is no "replicated again"

Yes, but before? Assume I'd changed the network adapter settings, triggered a failover and just 5 sec before it got started (failover) the network adapter settings got replicated again - boom. That's I'd like to understand WHEN network adapter settings are replicated and in which interval...

Re: feature request regarding networking for replica failover
Again: I recommend to use a test VM to see whether it fits your needs. If the result is not satisfying, I need a step by step description what you did and what failed / what's missing.
I see no "boom" and I see no change adapter settings. But I never change the adapter in production (I don't see that question above and it also makes no sense to me to change the production network in VMware)
