Hello there,
as it stands the VBR console you can install on clients to administer VBR servers remotely requires a lot of ports to be opened between the host of the console and target servers of a potential restore.
For example you can't do Application item restore (AIR) for MSSQL or Exchange without allowing those connections because the console wants to talk to the target servers directly.
This makes it impossible for us to use the remote VBR console because we have only allowed communications of this nature directly between the central backup infrastructure (backup and proxy servers, repository servers, etc) and the target servers (over a dedicated backup VLAN). We can't allow this between the console and the target servers as the console cannot be inside the backup VLAN and we can't open ports between the console and every target server we have.
Right now for AIR to MSSQL and Exchange servers the following ports are required (it is similar for other AIR scenarios like Active Directory):
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... on-console
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
The Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager on the other hand requires no direct connection to the target servers. It delegates all restore processes to the central backup infrastructure which in turn communicates with the target servers. Which is a solution that makes more sense to me because it requires no additional opening of ports.
Therefore I'd like to request the feature that the remote VBR console in future releases also only directly communicates with the central backup infrastructure to delegate the restore.
This way we can also uninstall the VBR console from the backup server itself, which is more secure. Right now we can't because of the aforementioned problem.
Best regards,
Nils Ripcke

Re: Feature request regarding remote VBR console
Hi Nils,
Interesting request.
Noted for internal discussion, and I do agree that possibility to control that behavior might be a good add.
/Thanks for feedback!
