Synopsis: It would be nice if there was a checkbox to restore the AD Computer Account along with the VM when performing a full restore to the original location.
How we hit this: This weekend an application upgrade went sideways and I had to restore 16 VM's at once (ArcGIS for those who know the beast of a system). Our AD joined systems are set to auto-update the domain computer account password once every 30 days. We also use LAPS for the local admin account and these are updated every 7 days. As luck would have it, two of the 16 systems cycled both their AD and LAPS passwords on Saturday Afternoon. On Sunday afternoon I got the call from the application team to roll it all back using the backups taken on Saturday morning. Upon reboot, the unlucky VM's could no longer communicate with the AD Controllers due to having an out of sync password, and nobody could login as the local admin to fix it because the LAPS password in AD was no longer valid.
It would be nice if during the backup, Veeam had the option to also snag the relevant AD Computer object details during guest processing and stash that as metadata along with the backup. Then upon restore it would restore the AD computer object too. Thus avoiding an issue with an out of sync AD Computer object and the extra steps required to get everything working again.
We can also do this via an AD object restore, but this would automate the process and avoid the need to even add the extra steps and thus help guarantee that a restored VM is good to go.
