Feature Request - Surebackup NIC Settings on VDS

Post by spiff_21 »

When creating a lab for Surebackup, and using the advanced multi-host setting, the lab creates a new port-group, but there are no way to set the Teaming and failover on the VDS for the lab. I would purpose as option to set the Teaming and failover, so this can be set accordingly to your setup.

Problem with this missing setting is that, the on the new port-group created by surebackup, the teaming and failover setting is set incorrectly in case you are using NIC Setting "route based on IP Hash", as the new group have the default conflicting setting "Route based on originating virtual port", This is a dangerous problem, which caused us problems, and can end up with taking the VMware environment offline.

Futher more it makes, it impossibly to use VDS (Virtual Distributed switches) for surebackup, and therefor also limits, the environments that can be tested to environments that can fit on a single host, in case you are using LACP, for load balancing.

Hi Jakob, thanks for the feedback. Haven't your thought of pre-configuring the port group with the required settings, so it could be re-used in the virtual lab during each SureBackup job cycle?

I have been thinking about, this. But this is a bit dangerous, as any change to the virtual lab would override the setting, Potentially leading to the lab network bringing the complete VSD down.
