Feature Request: vCloud Director Backups

Post by SE-1 »

Hello,

We have customers asking us to put different retention on our vCloud Director backups.

Currently we select the whole organisation or vdc to backup.
This is easy, as a new vm is deployed in the organization, it is automatically included in backup.

Having a combination of selecting the organisation and an inclusion/exclusion based on tags would be great.

Hello Dirk,

Just to understand the request better: can you please clarify if you would like to select independent retention from machines in the organization or you would like to exclude specific machines from processing completely. Thank you in advance!

Hello Dima

We would like select independent retention for virtual machines.
We would like to tag the vm's for example with bronze, silver, gold, and that it then is picked up by the correct job.

For the exclusion part: When you create a job with exclusion for silver & gold, it will only backup the bronze vm's, but also the vm's without a tag (if tag script is not running, or people forget it to update the reference db...)

- You cannot set different retention policies for different VMs within the same backup job
- What kind of vCloud Director tags you're talking about? Do you mean vCloud Director metadat by any chance?
