File level restore on deduplicated volume
Hi,
we setup a file server on Windows 2012 R2 Standard recently and enabled the deduplication on the data volumes.
Backup is running fine but I just did some tests today to restore files to the structure before going to production mode and I get an error:
Browsing deduplicated volumes requires that backup server is installed on Windows Server 2012.
Searching through the forum I found one reference to this:
http://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-re ... 13830.html
But it doesn't help me. The Veeam backup server is running on Windows 2012 R2 server with v8.0.0.2021 (update 2b not applied yet).
I tried restoring through the backup server and Veeam explorer as well as through our Enterprise Backup Manager. There I'm able to browse the backups just fine but the restore finishes with an unspecific warning but tells me the restore went fine but the file is not there. I selected keep and original destination so usually I expect a RESTORED-{FileName} file there.
Does the message reference the Veeam server or the backup target? And does it mean it wants me to install the Windows Server Backup feature?
Thx for your insight

Christian, is Data Deduplication feature enabled on the backup server?

Re: File level restore on deduplicated volume
10 seconds after I wrote the forum entry I thought about that option too. So I just need to enable the server feature without configuring it and Veeam will "speak" Windows dedupe if I understand correctly?

Re: File level restore on deduplicated volume
Thank you foggy that was it. I was wondering if this is documented anywhere?
