Dear All,
We are migrating our windows 2003 file server to 2012 R2. We are "cheating" as we will provision a new VM and give it the same machine name/IP address etc as the one we are replacing and reattach the vmdks. We will import the windows shares to the new server and then add back to the domain. This way all shares and file permissions are retained.
My question is what will happen with my backup, is this the same issue as moving VMs to a new vcenter and the moref ID. I'm assuming it is and that the next backup after the migration will be a effectively the size of a full backup. We are using forward incrementals.
Thanks for your input.

Re: File Server Migration
Hello Christopher,
As you will backup a new(another VM) with another Moref-ID you need to reconfigure the job and map it to the existing backups.
This way, as you said the first run will be a "full-size increment". More info is in this thread.
Thanks!
