Firewall on Windows 2008 R2
Hello,
We have been using Veeam 6.5 for over 2 months. I didn't turn on the firewall on the temporary unit. We might be switching to version 7 on a new physical server with local storage (40+ TB) and like to turn on the firewall this time. Only one Veeam backup server in our environment.
OS: 2008 R2
Thanks in advance,
TS

Hi, this should be fine, but I recommend enabling it before installing Veeam v7. As far as I remember, the setup program will automatically open some required ports. Some additional ports will also be automatically open as you start using the product. Generally speaking, you should have no issues, as we test our product with Windows Firewall enabled. But if you run into any issues, we will be happy to troubleshoot and assist. Thanks!

Re: Firewall on Windows 2008 R2
Gostev,
Thank you for your response. It was nice chatting with you after the Veeam Breakout Session at the VMworld!!
Background:
07/27/13 Date put in production
Sunday - Friday, incremental
Saturday - Full Active Backup
09/04/13, we changed our backup (edit)
Sunday - Friday, incremental
Saturday - Synthetic Full (removed active full backup)
Quick question: Our temporary backup server is running out of space and I like to move the backup files over to the new server for archive. Whatever set I move as long as I don't touch the latest full backup (vbk) & any subsequent incremental, I should be fine right?
I like to run the temporary backup server for a few more weeks, hence the need to free space.
Thanks,
TS

Yep, as long as, the latest .vbk and .vibs that are dependent on it stay untouched, you can move previous backup files. However, there is one concern in this scenario – VB&R will be unaware about the movement you’ve made, and, therefore, the backup database will still have references to the moved restore points.
From my perspective, you’d better upgrade to the latest product version and put into use new backup copy job that will handle the process of copying backup data for you.
Thanks.

I assumed that I can have 2 veeam backup servers pointing to the same VMware host without issue? I like to run the new version for a week as a test to get a feel for it.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Yes, you can do that. In fact, this is how our own IT has deployed v7 internally.

Though, keep in mind that in this case two backup servers will be unaware about each, thus, you will have to specify backup windows more carefully, so that, they won’t be overlapped. Thanks.I assumed that I can have 2 veeam backup servers pointing to the same VMware host without issue?
