Front End SMB Share?
Is there a Front End SMB Share you could go to and see all the available backup files that you could copy the files out of from the Veeam Repo?

Re: Front End SMB Share?
There's no need for such a share, as unlike in other backup solutions, Veeam backups are normal files. So you can copy them directly from the volume behind your repository. Thanks!

Re: Front End SMB Share?
So I would be able to get to a file within the backup by browsing into a SMB share?

Re: Front End SMB Share?
Hi James,
I think your question was misunderstood. Veeam backup files(copied data) are kept compressed\deduplicated in a proprietary format "containers", which could be read only by using Veeam tools. You have full access to Veeam backup files(.vbk, .vib and such) and can perform normal file operations with them(for example manual copy).
If you want to restore a file from within Veeam backup, you can do so for sure, and can browse'n'search for files - you have to pass through Veeam stack: via Backup Console GUI(Veeam File Browser, Veeam Explorers so on), via command line(extract utility or PowerShell) or Veeam Enterprise Manager web-UI.
/Cheers!

Exactly, which is why I was wondering if there Could be a Front End SMB share that could be integrated and browseable into the VMbackup files to restore things.

Re: Front End SMB Share?
File level restore session mounts backup content into the C:\VeeamFLR folder of the mount server, and you can certainly share this folder out as an SMB share using native Windows capabilities to enable browsing this folder remotely.
However, most of our customers use the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager web UI to enable self-service file-level recoveries. This is much more user-friendly way than browsing an SMB share, and it includes file search capabilities as well. Even more importantly, it allows for secure role-based access to data in the individual backups, as opposed to just giving everyone access to data in all backups.
Thanks!

That makes sense, however, this would potentially enable some automation to be able to go out and grab a specific file inside of a backup aka say we are able to go to \\VeeamServer\VeeamFLR\11052020\BackupName\d\folder1\file1.bak" and copy that out of there to my local server d:\folder\
For example.
For example.

For automation purposes, v10 added the feature Data Integration API (check out the What's New in v10 document for more details). This allows to mount any restore point to any server, at which point the data is directly accessible on this server for copying out or processing by 3rd party tools.

Well we really need FULL REST API support re: B&R and SQL Recovery as that's the preference over Powershell. However, if we could at least pull a file with the Current API that may be ok for now.

Re: Front End SMB Share?
Are there any examples to pull a file with REST from a backup? I would like to see if I can't do that at least, that move the ball a bit for now.

Please search through the REST API sub-forum, if there are any examples - they would be there. Thanks!
