Hello,
I'm quite new to Veeam and I've encountered an issue with migrating data from our old file server (FS1) to the new server (FS2). I need to copy or replicate data from \\DCFS.myorg\company to \\fs02.myorg\company, including all permissions and settings from the original file server—hopefully, that makes sense.
I tried restoring the file share, but instead of restoring the data directly to \\fs02\company, it was restored to \\fs02\company\__DCFS.myorg.
Could you please advise on how to correctly migrate the data while preserving the original structure and permissions?
Veeam version: B&R 11 (Build: 11.0.1.1261)
Thanks in advance!

Re: FS migration to new server
Hi,
is there a specific need to do this with Veeam? If both Servers are existing meaning the old one isn't dead I would copy all files with robocopy with the parameters /MIR /COPYALL (this preserves the permissions) to the new server. If you also need the shares you can export those from the registry of the old server and import that into the new one. Those are saved under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares and the subkey \Security contains share permissions.
Then it's only a DNS change (or IP and DNS change if the new server is meant to have the same as the old one).
This is the way we did this in our infrastructure when we migrated fileservers two years ago.

Re: FS migration to new server
This task was assigned to me by my manager, as he believes it's better to use Veeam instead of Robocopy, but I'll take a look.

Hi IT-STVSN,
Welcome to the forums.
