Full backup compact and defrag

Hi guys, had a question regarding this, if I schedule defrag and compact, how would I know its actually running and what type of schedule does it follow if you select specific days, is there a time associated with it ?

Sorry and an additional question, would a synthetic full assist in keeping the full backup file compact and optimal with regards to size?

Hi Jaques, a compact operation is performed after applying retention at the end of a successful job cycle performed on the specified day, so you will see it running as a part of the regular job session. Periodic synthetic fulls also prevent backup file fragmentation.

Defrag and compact will not be used, if you have configured active or synthentic fulls.
It needs to be a forever forward incremental chain or reverse incremental chain.
You can choose the day on this page in the backup job:

Synthentic Full on a refs or xfs reflink enabled volume will allow you to use FASTClone. You will get spaceless synthentic fulls with that configuration:
