Fullbackup to USB
Hi,
I have some problems understanding the backup methods. I have two usb drives that are changed every two weeks. For example:
1st. Wednesday in month: USB Drive 1
2nd. Wednesday in month: USB Drive 2
3rd. Wednesday in month: USB Drive 1
4th. Wednesday in month: USB Drive 2
The drives are attached on Wednesday afternoon and are taken offside on thursday. Each USB drive should contain only one fullbackup. How can I do this? With incremental backup we have problems when I attach the second week another USB drive.
Thanks!

Re: Fullbackup to USB
Hello,
If you need to keep only full backup file on your USB drives, then you should consider using Reversed Incremental backup mode with the retention policy set to 1. In this case after each full run, you'll be having incremental passes that will update the existing VBK file (Full).
To help you in understanding Reversed backup mode please review our sticky F.A.Q. topic, that answers all basic question regarding backup modes:

Hope it helps!

Re: Fullbackup to USB
Please note that there is ForceCreateMissingVBK registry hack that prevents job failing after you swap USB drives. See Veeam Backup 4 & Removable Media for more info. This should still work in v5 (at least for reversed incremental backup mode). Thanks!novagarb wrote:With incremental backup we have problems when I attach the second week another USB drive.

Re: Fullbackup to USB
I did the registry Hack. I hope I did it at the right position, because the Information is not exactly telling me where to put the DWORD. I still get this message:
Publishing catalog session
Previous rollback oib for VM 'NAME' was not found. Current oib '549d6e61-7366-4462-ad29-22db5022f34e'
I Use the reversed incremental backup mode with 1 points to hold. I set the DWORD in the registry. What can I now do to get this doing the backup?

The key mentioned should be under the following subkey:
If you have any difficulties in making this option work, just contact our support team.
Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VeeaM\Veeam Backup and Replication

Re: Fullbackup to USB
For what it's worth I'm having this problem across at least 7 sites where I have upgraded. Servers have been rebooted as well after applying this key.
Code: Select all
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VeeaM\Veeam Backup and Replication]
"ForceCreateMissingVBK"=dword:00000001
