General Backup Proxy - Concurrent Tasks

Post by cdlansys »

Dear all,

I am currently trying to determine the optimal concurrent tasks ratio for a General Backup Proxy.

We are planning to set up a new General Backup Proxy using our new Linux server (virtual machine) with 4 vCPUs and 8 GB of RAM. However, when I attempt to add it as a General Proxy in Veeam, it indicates that it can handle only 1 concurrent task. If I try to increase this value, a warning is displayed.

Could you please clarify how the concurrent tasks ratio is determined for General Proxies? Additionally, what would be the correct approach to configure this proxy to handle more concurrent tasks efficiently?

Thank you very much for your guidance.

Best regards,
Andrea

Hello, Andrea,

VBR in general tries to best guess the optimal concurrent tasks number, based on the official Veeam system requirements. All system requirements are cumulative.

So for General-purpose backup proxy we require:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... ckup-proxy

In your case, because you meet the minimum recommended requirements, a single Concurrent Task is recommended, and further concurrent tasks would require additional cores as per the User Guide.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13

Just to confirm, the General Purpose backup proxy is meant for Unstructured Data Backup (file shares, object storage) as well as some Veeam Agent operations.

Also, a note we have our Veeam Calculators to help with calculating the total resources required to meet your backup window.
