GFS Copy job
I'm new to Veeam and I'm trying to wrap my head around retention by storage points vs. retention by dates.
My backup job runs M - F and creates syn. full on Saturdays.
I want to create a monthly clone to tape AND a monthly disk copy to retain for a year.
My tape job runs great. No issues with that.
As for my copy job.
How do I set it up so the job runs monthly not daily?
If I have to run it daily, I don't want daily copies, just the monthly copy.
I set the monthly to retain 12 storage points.
Is that correct?
Thanks

Hello Richard,
Yes, you need to set monthly GFS retention=12 and "restore points to keep"=2.

Re: GFS Copy job

It will keep a chain of 2 daily copies, yes.
If you want to keep only monthly restore points, you don't need to run it daily.

Re: GFS Copy job
The copy job doesn't give me the option to run once a month, just days. Since the number of days in a month vary, this isn't a good option.
What's the difference between running a copy job and running a second backup job once a month?
Thanks

Re: GFS Copy job
You can set "Copy every" to 1 month, so synchronization will take place only once in a month.
You don't need to take snapshot and backup the VM in a case of copy job, you just copy the existing backups. What's the difference between running a copy job and running a second backup job once a month?

Under copy every, I see day, hour, minute. But no "month".
Thanks
