GUI extremely slow

Post by dlieshout@client.nl »

Case 00884374 - Did have a v7 physical backup server with Veeam B&R. GUI was extremely slow. What was slow? Well, first the startup of the GUI can take a lot of minutes. But not the Backup Job itselves but clikcing around in the GUI. Click on Jobs, Backup and can wait 10 seconds until some minutes. Then click on Jobs, Replica and the same happens. Also go to the Repostiries etc. All very very slow. That with only about 15 Backup Jobs and 10 Replica Jobs. On the local SQL Express. First shot was updating to v8 + Update 1 with no luck. Same issue.
Now they had too little storage so a brand new HP-server installed and Import, Migrate the database. But the GUI is still very slow. My first conclusion is that the database must contain "something" which causes this slowness.
Don't know what we can do about the database or what else if it should be another thing.

Have you tried removing job sessions from the database with the help of our support team? What is the retention policy for your Veeam backup database?

Got from Support: In rare cases the VeeamBackup SQL DB can have many thousands of previous task sessions which cause queries run by the console to be delayed. Here is an article which describes steps to troubleshoot the issue:
http://www.veeam.com/kb1995, I am installing the Studio Express right now.
Session history retention is 25 weeks.

Please let us know the results after adjusting the number of stored job sessions. BTW, if you need to have historical reporting you can use Veeam ONE (part of Availability Suite) that provides reach reporting capabilities for Veeam backup.

I did the KB1995. In short: stop all Veeam-services, then run the script

Code: Select all

USE [VeeamBackup]
GO
DECLARE	@return_value int
EXEC	@return_value = [dbo].[DropStoppedOldJobSessions]
		@retain_days = 30
SELECT	'Return Value' = @return_value
GO
Start all Veeam-services

It took about 1,5 hours to complete for this relative small database of 2GB. But after that ... all the GUI seems quick again like never before. Just wait for another day if the slowness has realy gone now.
Thank you Veeam Support.

Yep, also after one day the speed is still there. I guess it is fixed now. Wandering why the old records didn't clean up itself.

Old records/sessions are kept and cleaned up according to your job session retention policy settings.

Hi,
Is there a new kb reference to this issue?
The link to KB1995 no longer works

Thanks

Hi Mercurio,

That's an old thread, and I'm not sure that the proposed solution will work for the latest version of Veeam B&R, but thanks for posting in the existing topic! I would recommend opening a support case to see why you have this issue.

Thanks!
