Happy about V12 performance improvements

Post by joachimeberhard » 6 people like this post

I recently updated to V12, very smooth experience.

But what I am really happy about is performance improvements.
Active fulls are about 15-20% faster.
I would say console loads up at least twice as fast as in V11.

Keep the good work up!

Very good to hear, Joachim, thanks for sharing the experience with everyone!

Do you know if you have moved to PostgreSQL during the upgrade process?

Thanks!

No, we use our existing full SQL.

The upgrade process was even slightly simpler than the last patch I installed for V11.

I didn’t think you could move to PostgreSQL during the upgrade process unless you do a clean install and restore a config backup from v12. It was available during the betas but not the RTM unless it’s hidden now.

Hi Joachimeberhard,

I am really happy to hear that you are liking the new version.

May I know if you had any bad experience during upgrade from 11a to 12 like any bugs or any kind of Veeam Upgrade installer issue.

With Regards

No as a matter of fact I even did some unnecessary active fulls and some unnecessary other things.
Because I expected at least some problems, which never occured, like backup format changes and whatnot.

But all I would have actually needed to do is stop jobs, update, rescan infrastructure, restart jobs, done.

And from my experience, its the same amount of work to upgrade to V12 as it is to install the latest patch to V11.

So my recommendation would be to upgrade to V12 directly.

"Host Discovery" and "Rescan of Manually Added" was actually all I really had to do after every upgrade basically.

I am very glad to hear this as we are rebuilding our backup environment from scratch with v12. We were very happy with v11, but any performance improvement we can get will help us put off hardware upgrades just a little longer perhaps...

This was active full from last friday with V11:

Duration 5:17:22 Total size 12 TB Transferred 4,1 TB

And this if from this friday after upgrade to V12:

Duration 4:13:00 Total size 12 TB Transferred 4,1 TB

Thats pretty significant.
Even backup to LTO-8 tape is faster.

I'm happy.
