Hi ..
I've been looking at the Hardened Linux Repo ISO lately and it's pretty good; just needs some SysAdmin tweaks to make it worthwhile.
But it got me thinking, why 'just' make it for that ?
Seems to me the one thing Veeam has always lacked, is a good simple deployment of a Linux-based backup proxy.
All the other vendors whom use proxies have a proxy deployment process or image, but Veeam has always left it down to you the customer to create those.
Well, why not use this ISO, as it really makes a nice hardened OS that also cuts off the SSH for only when you need it and it applies the STIG.
The proxies are just as much a ransomware target, as they're generally machines that no one logs into on a daily basis and have access to every piece.
It wouldn't take much to rename a few pieces (like the menu that you get from the repo deployment tool) and it already has an 'OS only' install mode.
I know I can basically replicate the kickstart with my own Rocky 9 ISO doing the same, but this ISO is to help the people whom can't.
And also .. it's useful for us in the service delivery / professional services, as we can just state what we used; rather than have to teach people Linux.
Comments welcome, from Veeam as much as the community.

Re: Hardened Linux Repo ISO : Proxy VM
Hi, indeed V13 will provide a similar "just enough OS" that will be usable for ALL backup infrastructure roles and centrally managed/updated by Veeam. Thanks
