Hardware Storage Snapshot

What does it take to do hardware storage snapshots? I have a SAN and 3 hosts that run off it.
For example, the hardware storage snapshots must take up space. Do you need to Carve out a lun or something that is dedicated for the snapshots. I imagine this is a super basic question, but I really haven't found a clear article that explains what it takes to do it.

The detailed description regarding steps required for making SAN snapshots work can be found in our Help Center. The size of SAN snapshot isn’t a constant value, as the delta file grows during the job cycle.
