Hi
I have configured a server mounted with Linux as a Linux repository for my Veeam Backup environment. In this environment I have several jobs that back up virtual machines from different virtualized environments remotely, using Veeam Cloud.
Reviewing Nagios, I have seen that this server has increased the number of processes, having around 250 processes now I have been raised to about 850 approx. Seeing what processes are growing, I find the following:
Several processes similar to these two calls:
perl veeam_soapa84bf7e6-03ec-4884-b960-b63223253c7d.pl -d -c -l liba84bf7e6-03ec-4884-b960-b63223253c7d -e / tmp / veeam_errora84bf .....
/ tmp / VeeamAgent1d847e40-9bd0-41c2-9907-0915fd059f2a -l flush, / var / log / VeeamBackup / VeeamAgent.GetContentInfoOperation__cli.log, / tmp / VeeamBackup / VeeamAgent.GetContentInfoOperation__cli.log -i 236617b6-35b2-4138-b589-c645bcb6daf6 -g 2500-5000 --setFileLimit 4096 --mgmtConnKey AQAAAAAAAAAjAAAATWFuYWdlciB0byBBZ2VudCBjaGFubmVsIGVuY3J5cHRpb24BAAAAAQAAAAAAAADQVRV9ss3UAQIAAABKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIAAAABAAAAAuKWo5UZpQEf9eDnJklKZQAOOxRqUZ5yFZtCsMjHH1O9AvZ10ILQc86uGQcKxjFNMQAAAAiq2MONiOfEoW94aI6kL + dA ==
The great majority of the processes that are repeated are the so-called "perl".
Can someone explain to me what these processes are and why have they increased in that way on my server?
Thank you very much in advance.

Re: High number of processes in Linux repository
I had been having trouble with lots of the veeam_soap processes running on my Linux repository. After digging around, it looks like there should be one per running backup job. The veeam_soap process provides file manipulation (creation, deletion, move) along with disk usage (df). If IO wait causes the veeam_soap process to not return results in a timely manner, a new veeam_soap process is started but the original one is left running. (This seems like a bug.) Do this can cause even more IO wait. I ended up changing the MaxPerlSoapOperationTimeout https://www.veeam.com/kb1176.
