High read rate from backup repository during backup
I'm trying to understand why we are seeing such a high read rate from our repository when doing incremental backups. This continues throughout the job. This isn't reverse incremental.
The problem is that the NAS we back up to is only accessible over 1Gb ethernet. When we write data to it we get acceleration due to a driver on the proxy, which gives us up to 7Gbps, this doesn't work for reading data off the NAS though, so the whole job is crippled. Just checking now and it's running at 30MB/s. A brand new job (with no VRB to read back from) will run at around 400-600MB/s.

Re: High read rate from backup repository during backup
Hi Steve, could you please tell more details about this job? Is it a backup job (not backup copy)? What backup method is configured for it? What kind of repository does it use (Windows/CIFS)?

Re: High read rate from backup repository during backup
Hi Foggy, it's a backup job pointing to a Dell DR4300 NAS. Backup is pretty standard, full at the weekend and incremental during the week. Checking the job again this morning, it's reading data at between 0.5 and 1Gbps constantly, almost like it's checking the backup file. If there's no simple explanation I can log a ticket.

I thought about health check, but it is performed at the end of the backup job session. Are you sure it is Veeam B&R who reads the target? Yes, please open a case for a closer look.

I have healthcheck turned off. It's the proxy that's reading off the NAS. Very odd. I'll raise a ticket.

Re: High read rate from backup repository during backup
I know you indicated that you are not using reverse incremental, however, you then mention VRB files, which is confusing, since those only exist for reverse incremental. It may have been just a typo, but I wanted to be 100% sure because that's the only obvious reason I could see for the behavior you are describing.
