hotfix - all servers?
Hi -
We got a hotfix since 2 of our sites have Nimble SANs and v12 had an issue with FibreChannel. I applied the hotfix to those servers.
Does that hotfix need to be applied to all servers even if the other servers don't need them?
We are running Enterprise Manager and Veeam One. I also log into multiple VBR servers from 1 PC (using the Veeam console installed locally) - but it prompts to "update" the console if I connect to a server that doesn't have the hotfix.
Since the hotfix doesn't change the version #, I'm also not sure of an easy way to check all our VBR servers to verify if the hotfix is applied or not.
Applying the hotfix to all VBR servers could make sense if needed, but is annoying. The related question though - does Enterprise Manager or VeeamOne require anything?
I did install it on our VDRO server, and I still get prompted to "update" the console when accessing the Orchestration VBR install remotely.
Thanks -
Terrence

Hello Terrence
I don't know what hotfix from your post. You should ask directly your support engineer in your support case who provided you with the hotfix. He can answer that question for you.
Could you maybe share the case number with me?
Best,
Fabian

Some of our components/services are installed side by side with the console on a remote machine. If the hotfix changes something on those specific components, it make sense that the console ask for an update.I also log into multiple VBR servers from 1 PC (using the Veeam console installed locally) - but it prompts to "update" the console if I connect to a server that doesn't have the hotfix.

The hotfix is https://www.veeam.com/kb4478?ad=in-text-link case # 06317006
I can re-open the closed ticket and ask an engineer, but was hoping there was a documented best practice/policy regarding hotfixes in a multi-VBR server environment (we have about a dozen sites), especially in regards to those with Enterprise Manager, Veeam One, and Orchestrator. Since Orchestrator has a local VBR I assume it should be treated similar to other VBR servers.
Also is there a documented way to verify hotfix installs on a system since the version # doesn't change of course, and I don't see it listed under installed programs? Perhaps something in the registry, or existence of a file or folder? If a person were to inherit an existing config, how do they verify which private fixes have been installed?

Re: hotfix - all servers?
Hi TW
From what I see in the hotfix notes, either install the hotfix on any Veeam backup server or update the firmware on your Nimble hosts where the issue is fixed on the storage. Our internal notes states that Nimble should have release a firmware update in July 2023. I didn't checked if HPE has released a new version.
Instead of "just installing" the hotfix on every system, I strongly recommend to contact our support team. Other hotfixes on those backup servers could be affected by our "nimble" hotfix.
Our support team can provide you with a hotfix detector tool.
We are working on better tracking of hotfixes for our end customer as well.
Best,
Fabian

Update. In v12, we already have a new powerShell command:
Get-VBRPrivateFixes
You can also check the following log. If there is a specific private fix installed, it will be listed when the backup service starts:
"C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Svc.VeeamBackup.log"
Best,
Fabian

Re: hotfix - all servers?
Thanks - that will be useful when doublechecking my servers, or if inheriting any servers that I don't have any history on.
