How can I remove old backups?
I wanted to purge old backups from my backup server, so I deleted the unneeded files. How can I get Veeam to recognize that these files are gone and remove them from it's database without deleting the whole backup set?

Drew, if you right-click the corresponding backup under Backups node in Veeam Backup tree, there will be two options: one removes just backup record from the configuration database, and another one (Delete from Disk) does the same plus in addition it deletes actual backup files from the disk.

Doesn't that remove all backups from the set, though? I just want to remove the backups that I deleted (1 full synthetic and a few VRBs), not the entire backup set.

Re: How can I remove old backups?
Drew, this task it better to perform by adjusting retention policy in the advanced job settings and reducing the number of restore points to keep - letting Veeam Backup remove unnecessary points automatically on the next run - instead of deleting files manually. But you can still do this right now, it should not be a problem that actual files are already removed - Veeam Backup would just remove the records from configuration database.

Mark, please follow the link: "Restore points to keep" being ignored?
