how do i check whats inside a vbk file?

Post by BakerSyd »

hi all

new to Veeam backup and everything that goes with it..
we need to restore some data from a tape and we have

1x vbm - 260kb
4 x vib - from 10.0gig to 17.3gig
1 x vbk 2.2 TB

is there a way to see what data is stored on the vbk file without having to restore it?
is there some sort of catalogue i can access?

im reading that the vbm is a index file..is this what i should be opening first?

thanks!

Hi, just double-click it in Windows Explorer on your backup server, and B&R will pull up the list of VMs included. Thanks!

hi
thanks for the reply,
i know what vm is included in the vbk file, its one of our data servers... but i need to be able to drill down into the data stored
eg,

D:\data\userdata\data (need to see what files are inside this location before wasting time in restoring the full 2TB vbk file)

is this possible?

Hi Adam,

To search within a VM backup, you need to enable guest OS file system indexing in the properties of the corresponding backup job. Do you have this option enabled? If not, then the only way to see what's inside is to do what Anton has said and then start the Guest OS FLR wizard.

Thanks!
