[POLL] How many copies of your Veeam backups do you keep?

Post by Gostev »

The results of this poll will be available publicly, however the voting itself is anonymous (the forum does not keep track of who voted for which option).

I do hope people will answer honestly to this poll, and they will not choose the best option just to not feel ashamed for their sub-optimal setup :)

Just to verify, I hope you're not assuming that all the backups are D2D. I included my tape copies in this poll giving me the 2 or more copies, including offsite.

Matt, you are correct. Tape counts for 1 on-site or off-site copy (depending on whether it stays in your library, or goes to off-site vault). I am planning for a second poll specifically on methods of off-site backup.

At least this would mean they understand they are doing it wrong, so it's all good ;)

1) Local in the center
2) Over fiber to another building
3) Stored quarterly on 4TB UB drives at another office site
4) Stored up on amazon using AWS gateway.

All that as well as VMware SRM running between 2 offices as well as DFS replications of major shares to smaller offices... etc...

I'm anal about backups but I've never in 20 years been stung by failure!

We keep one set on disk and then we copy to Tape for off-site storage.

I voted for I have 2 or more on-site copies of my backups. This is a honest answer and my configuration. On on Tapes and on on Disk.

I have mirrored P4000 VSA's on site, a veeam repository onsite, a veeam repository using twinstrata in the cloud, and a quarter rack colocated in another city that we replicate to using veeam and also have a veeam repository there.

Maybe a little overkill but I can sleep well at night!

Hey now! :)

Live production system on highly redundant RAID.
1 backup copy of everything locally on highly redundant RAID (120 restore points, not that it matters).
1 offsite replica of everything on highly redundant RAID.

So I only have 1 copy of backup, but I have 3 copies of my data - 2 local and 1 offsite. My clients are comfortable with this cost/value/risk arrangement.
