How much proxy server is sufficient?

Post by JasonPGTF »

Hi all, I'm just wondering on how do I size up my proxy servers & how much proxy server is considered sufficient?
My Veeam is backing up around 100+ clients a day & due to limited time frame of performing backups, I have to piled up several backups at a particular hours to run at the same time. For sure this will make my 1 proxy server fully occupied, so I want to know is there a formula or best practice on how much proxy server should i create to allow the backup to complete smoothly & quickly.

Hi Egor,

Thanks for sharing the Best Practices. Just 1 more question, this not really related to proxy but more to the performance of the backup. If I'm able to provide sufficient proxy servers for my backups will I experience performance hiccups cause by vmware environment?

That depends on proxies transport mode (nbd, hotadd, direct SAN) and vmware storage specs. In general, yes, there is a possibility that vmware network or disks will be the bottleneck.

Thanks
