How to clone Veeam V8 without data for testing V9

Post by matthydras »

Hello All

I want to clone my VBR VM without all my backup datas (on Vmware Infrastructure).
I want to do it for testing the process for updating my VBR8 to VBR9.

Someone have been done this thing before and can help me to understand how to do it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a nice day.

Is your backup server physical or virtual machine? Thanks.

Hi

The VBR is virtual machine.
So If I clone the VM, I also need to clone the BVR backup datas.

I would like clone only the system without datas.

You can replicate your VM using VB&R console and exclude unneeded virtual disks from processing, then, failover to this machine and check product updates. Thanks.

What about setting up a new VM, installing Veeam v8 and importing the configuration backup from your productive environment?

You should keep in mind that one issue you will run into if you are testing an upgrade on a clone of your production v8 server is that all of the components on your proxies/repositories will need to be updated as well, which will make them not work on your v8 install.

As far as I can understand, the idea here to simulate upgrade path on particular machine, and creating a new machine from the scratch and importing configuration into it would not allow to do that. Thanks.
