Hello Janez, you cannot prevent specific server from being assigned a gateway role in case automatic gateway selection is enabled. But you can specify the gateway server explicitly.

And if you want to exclude it completely from any Veeam processing activity, just remove it from managed servers. Thanks.

Re: How to exclude certain server from Gateway role?
Hi,
@ foggy: I prefer automatic selection, as I presume is better for load balancing and avoidance of single point of failure. ( I have multiple proxy servers available...)
Thanks

Just to be clear: Can I remove also Veeam Backup an Recovery Server from "Managed Servers"? I want to avoid the backup traffic being relayed via VBR server as this causes havy load on it.v.Eremin wrote:And if you want to exclude it completely from any Veeam processing activity, just remove it from managed servers. Re: How to exclude certain server from Gateway role?
I think you can try to deassign any role a given server happens to have, such as repository and proxy. In this case, it won't have any transport component installed, thus, it won't be able to participate in any processing activity.
It's more like a suggestion, rather than proved course of actions.
Thanks.

Re: How to exclude certain server from Gateway role?
I join this thread because i think the question has not been clearly answered.
In my situation we have multiple veeam virtual proxy on each nutanix host to spread the backup/copy jobs load.
We observed that the vbr was used also as copy job gateway and we want to prevent this as it is not neaded. Moreover the gateway role assumed by vbr server has a side effect that overload the vbr server and makes it unresponsive during backup+copy job windows.
How can we prevent this to occur? Regards

Do you configure the gateway server for the repository explicitly or leave the default automatic selection mode?

Re: How to exclude certain server from Gateway role?
Hi Foggy,
Finally, almost two years later i'll answer your Question
By default Gateway server on repository is set to auto selection. We observed that in many situations, vbr is used as gateway server for multiple job as we do not master the auto selection algorythm, we would like to disable the gateway server rôle on VBR since it is not designes to handle this rôle, it should keep on low load since it is hosting the VBR server role and Database Engine. We do not want the VBR to be overloaded because of backup processing.
Regards

Based on the gateway server selection rules, If you disable the default proxy and explicitly set the mount servers for the repositories, the backup server shouldn't be selected as a gateway.

Re: How to exclude certain server from Gateway role?
Hi,
I try this by disable the proxy from the Veeam server. And select the gateway with automatic selection. The two gateways have network traffic and not the Veeam server.
Thanks
