How to make Veeam backup from Pure Storage Snapshot?

Post by davidb1234 »

I setup pure array to take scheduled snapshots. My veeam backup jobs when configured to backup from storage snapshots seemed to ignore this setting. It took a vmware snapshot like normal. Also the snapshots the pure array is taking are not showing up in veeam even with the latest version of plugin and B&R installed.

I don't see a way to schedule storage snapshots from Veeam.

What are the correct steps to set this up?

Please check whether you've configured everything correctly.

This is expected. Current version of Pure Storage plug-in doesn't expose storage snapshots which are not created by Veeam B&R jobs. This should be addressed in the next plug-in update.

I reviewed that document and looks like I added the storage and vmware hosts and everything correctly. I just don't understand and the documentation doesn't specify how veeam will take a storage snapshot or backup from storage snapshot and it doesn't seem to be doing that. How does a Veeam job create a storage snapshot?

I figured it out! I see it still takes a vmware snapshot. It is much faster now. THank you! I see also that you can leave it as a secondary backup location and keep retention on the veeam array created snapshots.
