How to retain a backup of a server that is no longer being backed up
G'day All
Apologies if this has already been asked. I am new to Veeam, and have inherited the administration of our backups.
I have a server that is now 'static' and nothing will change on it. It was being backed up, and now no longer needs to be backed up. I have disabled the backup jobs, but would like to retain a backup in case the server goes down and we need to retore it to it's current state. The retention policy is 40 days (Keep 4 weekly, 6 Monthly).
Is there a simple way to grab the backups and store them, export them or do I need to do some fancy maneuvering?
Appreciate the help.

Hello and welcome to the community Greg.
Mind me asking how the job is configured? Does it contain only the decommissioned server or any other machines are included too? Thank you!

I use the export feature for this purpose. When we decommission a VM , sometimes the owner asks me to keep it for a few months just in case they need something off it. I extract it and it sits outside of any retention policy. When we don't need it anymore, I delete it.
It will show up under Disks -> Exported

Another option is to use a VeeamZIP on the VM (provided the VM still exists). You can set its own retention policy. I use this rather than extracting a backup, because then I can say "Keep backup for 6 months" and promptly forget about it. If I don't need it within that 6 months its purged and life goes on.

Thank you Dima and Pmichelli, the export worked.
I appreciate the advise and that you took the time to respond.
