How to upgrade the SQL server used by Configuration to a new version

Post by RDinis »

Hi all!

I have Veeam B&R 9.5, the SQL used for the configuration at this moment is SQL 2016. I wish to upgrade to 2017 so that I can use Veeam B&R 9.5 restore SQL 2017 databases.

What is the correct procedure to upgrade the SQL server used by Veeam? Just stop the jobs and services and upgrade in place?

Can anyone confirm if SQL 2017 is indeed the maximum version allowed in Veeam B&R 9.5 ?

Thank you all for your attention,
Ricardo Dinis

Hi Ricardo.

- By default Veeam Explorer for SQL uses local SQL server, however you can set any other SQL Server 2017 machine as "Staging Server" for SQL backups. That will solve the case without need of upgrade.
- To upgrade SQL Server used by Veeam DB, disable all jobs and shut down Veeam Backup service. Perform an upgrade and launch services back.
- Yes, VBR 9.5u4 fully supports MS SQL 2017 tops and none above.

/Thanks!

Hi Egor,

thank you very much for your clear answer. I already know about the staging server scenario, but I really wish to upgrade the local SQL Server.

Thanks once again and best regards,
