I need to save a full backup for December end of month?

Post by ceez »

hi everyone, happy new years eve!

I have a reverse incremental backup job with 9 retention points and I need to save a full backup to put off site.

Now my backup repository looks like this:

If I wanted to save that last monthly vbk file (Servers2014-12-29T200835.vbk), all I need to do is copy that file elsewhere and whenever I need to restore anything from "end of month December" I just double click it to open it and i will be able to restore files?
Do I need to copy the vmb file as well?

Thanks

Hi Cesar,
yes you can copy simply the vbk file. When needed, you will configure the folder where you stored the two files as a new repository, and after rescan you will see the backup as imported.
Or, you can automated the export by creating a backup copy job using this backup as a source.

You will need to import this backup to a backup console first, and, then, you're good to go. Otherwise, you can use extract.exe utility that goes with every production installation in order to get access to the content of the backup file.

No, as full backup file can be imported without .vbm.

Be aware, that you can use a backup copy job with 30-day sync interval, rather than 3-party copying utility, in order to get monthly worth backup to a secondary location.

Thanks.

thanks for the reply.
so i can either rescan the file once I create a new repository for it or I can also double click to open it and grab files if needed.

I have tried to understand the backup copy job but it's confusing to me.

Having additional repository would mean that corresponding file would be imported to a backup console automatically during rescan procedure. Though, there is no one preventing you from importing the said file manually. As to double click, it would work on a server that has VB&R installed. Thanks.

yes, double clicking the file only opens up when done from the server that has VBR installed :)
