Hello i would like to know what an ideal backup target server would be. Say i have 11TB on local storage on a vmware esxi host. I want to run a VM on that host to use all that storage. Then i want another windows machine to backup to it as a target. What roles or parts of the program do i want to install on the backup "target" host, or do i just make a normal fileshare. I think maybe veeam server could be run in some sort of "backup target" mode? Or just install the veeam server agent on the 11tb machine.
cant see any obvious guides on this. is it better to use a linux vm host or windows?

Re: Ideal backup target server (VM)
Hello!
Ideal backup target server can never be a VM, this is the worst practice in fact. Literally anything will make a better backup repository than a VM.
If your Veeam server is physical, then yes - just add some storage to it (internal or direct attached) and you have your ideal backup target right there.
Thanks!
