Immutable backup job removal

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

What happens if you delete a backup job that has written its backups to a hardened repository?
I am assuming that the backups become orphaned. But will B&R v12 still keep track of the immutability of the restore points, so that it will be possible to delete the restore points when the repository retention period has passed?

Kind regards,
PJ

Hello PJ

V12 has a background retention job. The backup server will take care of the retention of those restore points after you have deleted a backup job.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

When you delete a job, those backups of that job are moved to the "Disk (orphaned) node.
This works for backups with the retention type "days". For type "restore points", manual removal is required after the retention period if over. GFS backups can always be removed.
In case of hardened repositories, Veeam will wait till the immutability period is over and then deletes those backups if they are out of the configured retention policy.
