Import VBK from old PC?

Post by MustafGames »

Hello, i'm feeling a bit desperate right now.

Here's the current situation:

I only have a VBK file, which was created by Veeam for Windows, but the meta file is missing.
The VBK was originally created on a completely different PC, with different users (SSIDs).
When trying to import it into the Veeam Backup & Replication Console (Community Edition), it asks for a username and password.
This presents two problems: the regular user didn’t have a password, and I'm not sure what the username was.
The administrator account and password I’m using are not being accepted, although I’m certain they are correct.

Could this be because it was created on a different PC with a different computer name?
Is there a way to find out the computer name and username?

The goal is to restore individual files on a filesystem level.

I'm still a beginner with Veeam and I really hope someone can help me.

Hi Dynamic,
I've already read that, but between steps 4 and 5 I'm asked for login data within the Veeam Console, which isn't even mentioned there. The login data that is requested is from the old PC and doesn't match the login data of the current PC. This is also a backup of a normal PC, not a server.
Thx, Mustaf

Hello Mustaf,
sorry I didn't see your reply sooner, I didn't get a notification about it.
Since you are running a community edition of VBR, contact with support is not guaranteed via SLA - but still available on a best efforts basis. I would try to contact them. Maybe the Support-Team may be able to help out here.
Best, Markus

@MustafGames

Did you ever get your issue resolved? I have the same problem with one of the backups from a few years ago and I am wondering if the credentials prompt comes up because the backup file is corrupted? Have you tried to validate it?
