Inconsistent VCSA 6.5 backups (9.5U1)

Test lab, old HP ML350G6 host running VMWare 6.0U1, with vCenter Appliance 6.5 running on it. Backup jobs run good for the most part. The part that's iffy is when it hits the vcsa. It ends up making 3 snapshots on it, after each, I get a "Error occurred while communicating with the remote host".

I figure there's an I/O bottleneck when the snapshot's made that vcenter loses communication with the Veeam job. Under my old vCenter 6.0 appliance, I never had any failures.

Any tricks with 9.5 to smooth that out?

...and then I delete all snapshots, run it again (incremental), and it runs fine. Goofy thing.
