Hello,
My questions are about indexing files using Veeam Enterprise Manager over VMWare VSphere 6
VEM (Veeam Enterprise Manager), VBS (Veeam Backup Server),
both with 9.5 U3.
1.- VEM synchronizes with a VBS that performs a backup job with the activated indexing of approximately 8 million files. The indexed sessions are stored in both the VBRCatalog folder of the VBS and the VEM.
Does the number of sessions stored in VBS match the number of restoration points configured in the backup task?
2.- Can VBS index sessions be deleted once they have replicated to VEM in case of space problems in VBS? How? What repercussions would this elimination have?
3.- If a Virtual Full Backup of these sessions is carried out, would VEM still control the file indexes on the tapes?
4.- How am I doing tests, how to initialize VBRCatalog folders in VBS and VEM?
Thank you.

Hi fll.
Please take a look at this articlefll wrote:Does the number of sessions stored in VBS match the number of restoration points configured in the backup task?
Index data should be erased by retention. Check this article for more details.fll wrote:Can VBS index sessions be deleted once they have replicated to VEM in case of space problems in VBS? How? What repercussions would this elimination have?
Backup stored on tape keep the backup file index (of course if such option was enabled in the application processing step of the original source job).fll wrote:If a Virtual Full Backup of these sessions is carried out, would VEM still control the file indexes on the tapes?
I am not sure I understand this question. Can you please elaborate? Thanks.fll wrote:how to initialize VBRCatalog folders in VBS and VEM?

Re: Indexing files using Veeam Enterprise Manager
Thanks for the quick reply.
Regarding the last question, I would like to know how to empty the catalog (VBRCatalog) in relation to file index files in both VBE and VBS.
In some site I read that it would be something like download services and delete folders.
As I am doing tests I would not like to fill the data catalog without validity.
Should I disable the indexing in the backup job to avoid problems?
I also consulted an issue that I forgot to mention.
How to backup and restore the Indexing Catalog?
Thanks again.

You can just delete the unneeded VM directories from that catalog folder.fll wrote:Regarding the last question, I would like to know how to empty the catalog (VBRCatalog) in relation to file index files in both VBE and VBS.
There's no special tool or option for that, if you want to back it up separately (not within the entire backup server backup), you can use file copy job, for example.fll wrote:How to backup and restore the Indexing Catalog?
