Information about Extract utility

Post by devlopur »

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are doing well, can you help me exactly how your standalone extract utility will work. I would like to know more about its functionality. How it is extracting the whole volume from a 1 G.B file what is the procedure to do so . Feel free to ping me privately.
Thanks in advance for your help

Regards
Devlopur

Hello Devlopur,

Please review this Help Center article: Extract Utility as it describes all the capabilities of the tool as well as the needed commands to run in via command line. If you are looking for a way to work with the data inside the backup: Disk Publishing (Data Integration API) might be a better option. Thank you!

Hello Dima,

The thing is that i have used your extract.exe to get VMDK/ VHDX but i am unable to mount it in order to get access to data, So i was thinking about can you tell me how to mount that file after using extract utility, or else can you help me the background process of this extract utility.

Thanks

Once the disk is extracted you need to use native capabilities of machine it's been extracted to or the hypervisor you are using. For example Mount-VHD.

Hi Devlopur

1. Extract the disks using Extract Utility
2. Mount Disks via UI or CMD

2a. For VMDK format you would need VMware Workstation or VMware disk mount utility to map it as a vSphere virtual disk unknown to Microsoft Windows without additional tools https://www.kjctech.net/mount-a-vmdk-im ... n-windows/ (note: Windows Explorer approach is misleading as it seems that author had already installed either VMware Workstation or VMware disk mount utility, without it mount option is not available in Windows Explorer)

2b. For VHD / VHDX you can just double click the disk an mount it without any extra tools installed since that's a Microsoft format https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/613 ... -10-a.html

Hi Dima

should i have to add extension manually after the disk name which i have extracted, because the disk which i have extracted doesn't have any extension,
Or
while i am renaming it as .vhdx and double click on it, and it show me that the disk image is corrupted, but its not

Thanks
