Information on how to correctly backup SQL
Hello All,
I am running a vmware veeam environment. I have a backup job that I run every night at 10PM. One of the servers in this list has an SQL database. I want to back up those logs every 1 hour and keep them for 1 day, a rolling 24 points.
I have went into the options and enabled the application processing, and requested the logs to be backed up periodically every 60 minutes. It does not seem to be running though.
Will it back up the logs for that server every 60 minutes even if I only back up the server every night?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Information on how to correctly backup SQL
Hello Chris,
Yes, SQL Backup job does not depend on the main job schedule, so if you've configured to backup logs every 60 minutes, your backup server will trigger SQL job according to the desired RPO.
Do you see any stats if you do what is described over here?
Thank you!

Re: Information on how to correctly backup SQL
Thank you for that information. It makes sense. I can tell you my run failed, I assume that I do not have permissions to access the sql database with the role account I use to access the servers.
With that said, I have checked the SQL guide and I am not sure what roles I should have the SQL admin assign to my role account. I need to be able to backup and restore (sorry I am not that versed in SQL).
Can you provide any insight into the roles that would be assigned to the account in SQL Manager?
Thanks for everything!
Chris

You should give the account sysadmin privileges on the backed up SQL Server.

Awesome. I will work with my SQL admin today and have that taken care of.

Digging further, you can try these explicit permissions, should be sufficient.

Re: Information on how to correctly backup SQL
I had the account given the sysadmin privileges, which resolved any error about accessing the db, but it does not seem as though it is backing up the db. I see it in the running jobs and there is history, but how can I be sure?
